Netherlands East Indies. (Internment Camp Mail). 1940. Netherlands East Indies postal stationery card 3 1/2c grey written from Sengkang Internment Camp dated '19th July 1940' with circular 'Interneeringkamp/ Sengkang' in violet and signed by the camp commander, addressed to Makassar, routed via Batavia '27/7' with 'Gecensureerd/ 1' censor hand-stamp in carmine on face, forwarded to Salatiga Protection Camp for women.
The Sengkang Internment Camp on the south Celebes island consisted of a school cordoned off with barbed wire. The camp held 93 internees mostly German. The internees were transferred from Sengkang to Makassar on 166th August 1940 and on to Ngawai and camps at Alasvallei.
