Air Mail envelope addressed to 'The Commanding Officer, Belgian Parachute Battalion, Ascension' bearing Great Britain SG 636, 6d green and mauve, SG 655, 3d violet (2) and SG 659, 3d blue/ violet tied by Hertford roller '23rd Nov 64' with adjacent Ascension arrival '8th Dec' and endorsed 'Retour/ Gone Away' in red crayon.
In 1964 staging facilities were offered in Ascension to a Parachute Battalion which was sent out from Belgium to attempt to rescue Belgian civilians caught up in the civil war in the Congo.
Airmail route was BOAC to Miami thence by United States Air Force to Ascension.
