Rooney, Australian Prisoner of War in GARARESCO/ Feldpost 12545/ c/o Agence Centrale des Prisonniers de Guerre, Comite International de la Croix Rouge, Palais de Conseil General, Geneve, Switzerland' bearing Australia SG 192, 1s grey-green tied by Melbourne roller '1st May 1942' with '3/ Opened by Censor' label tied by boxed '3/ Passed by Censor/ 301' in violet on reverse and face and imprinted 'Par/ Avion/ Aust. - U.S.A. - Portugal.'
Very attractive item, sent by sea to San Francisco and on by air via Lisbon.
Scarce item to an Australian P.O.W. in Feldpost 12545, a transit camp in Gargaresc near Derna, Libya.
The Camp was notorious for the ill treatment of the internees.
