Pre stamp folded letter written from 'Vineyard, New South Wales' dated 'March 16th 1839' addressed to Old Rain (Rayne), Scotland cancelled by faint 'Sydney Ship Letter' on reverse, put ashore at Hastings with framed 'India Letter/ Hastings' (Robertson In. 1) applied in black on reverse, charged '8' and erased and rated an extra 'shilling', back-stamped with London transit '22nd July', Scottish Wheel Tax '1/2d' and Edinburgh receiver '23/7'.

The letter originally charged 8d in m/s but re-calculated at '1/8', India Letter 4d and Inland (618 miles) 1/4d.
