Stamp-less folded letter written from Adelaide dated '10th Aug 1847' addressed to 'The Society for the Prophets of the Gospel, Pall Mall, London' cancelled by 'G.P.O./ South Australia' date stamp '11th Aug 1847' endorsed 'Per "La Bella Alliance" to Singapore thence Overland', charged '8' in m/s ink for the Ship and rated '1/-' with London receiver on reverse '28th December'.
The "Bella Alliance" was launched in Chittagong 1817, she traded under license for the British East India Co. On 28th February 1847 under Captain Abraham Van Der Vord the "Bella Alliance" left London with settlers for South Australia. She arrived at Adelaide on 30th June with 291 emigrants. Her next voyage August 10th 1847' (this letter) was carrying Ballast to Singapore.
