After the disastrous bombing of Pearl Harbour 7 December 1941' the US rapidly entered the Allied WW2 effort. Camp Colombia, Wacol was selected as a major staging post for the U,S, Army in the Pacific. In June 1944 after the liberation of New Guinea in the Pacific and the war nearing its end the Dutch with permission from the Australian Government established the Netherlands East Indies Government in Exile at Camp Colombia.
