Ref: DR18386
  • £150.00

Belgium - Germany. (Prisoner of War Mail). 1919. Stamp-less envelope headed 'Luisen Hospital, Aachen' addressed to 'Comite International de la Croix Rouge, Bureau Prisonniers de Guerre, Geneve', cancelled Aachen '2nd Aug 19' with circular 'Luisen Hospital/ Aachen' on reverse in blue with 'Controle Militaire - OZ' censor label tied by 'Censor Militaire Belge/ P' on face and reverse with oval 'Controle/ Par l' Autorite Militaire/ 127' censor cachet.

According to Rene Silverberg in his 1982 book on Belgian censors, the censor label was applied in Neuss (recorded March 19) and the circular censor cachet in Duisberg known in August 1919.

Very attractive cover from the Belgian Occupation of Germany in the aftermath of WW1. (A lot more research required).
