Whitehouse, Epsom, New Zealand' bearing British Solomon SG 40, 1d scarlet (pair) and SG 59, 3d blue tied by pencil with 'British Solomon Islands/ Red Cross Appeal 1d' label in blue and carmine on reverse and endorsed 'By Air Mail,' forwarded on arrival to Gisbourne with Newton receiver '2nd March.'
Sister Meerle Farland decided to stay at her post in Biua Village, Vella Lavella and during the Japanese Occupation aided the coast-watchers Kack Keenen and Henry Josselyn.
This item was carried behind enemy lines via a small canoe from the Solomons to New Guinea.
