Canada. 1842. Stamp-less folded letter written from Lochiel dated '5th Jan 1842' addressed to Cornwall cancelled by Lochiel unframed arc with m/s '7th January 1842' in center, endorsed 'Paid 9d' and endorsed 'Via Post/ Alexandria'.
Lovely item from Lochiel, Glengarry County C.W. The Post Office opened in 1822 according to Richard Frajola only one example of the Lochiel unframed arc is known dated 1846.
A m/s is known from 1845 59 and Frajola shows an example in his superb collection of Canadian Manuscript Town Postmarks.
