Envelope addressed to Leeds bearing SG 142, 16c on 24c green and SG 148, 4c rosy-mauve (pair) tied by '20' in bar numeral with adjacent Dodanduwa/ Paid date stamp 'Sept 29' routed via Colombo with Leeds arrival on reverse 'Oct 26 83'. Due to the Egyptian Cholera Epidemic of 1883 Brindisi would not accept mail from Egypt in transit so mail was sent 'non stop' to Venice to be processed by the Poveglia Disinfection Lazarat.
