Folded letter written from Santiago addressed to Castillion-sur-Dordogne, Gironde, endorsed 'France via de Panama', bearing 'Lithographed by Henri Gillet' 5c orange brown (margin shaved at foot with good margins other three sides), tied by target hand-stamp in black with Santiago dispatch date stamp alongside '31st Juil 56' in red, routed via Panama with bold hand-struck PANAMA TRANSIT' in orange, reverse with London '15 Sept,' French entry cachet 'Angl Amb Calais' on face, Paris a Bordeaux and Castillion-s-Dordogne receiver '17 Sept', charged with hand-struck '21' decimes in black.

The 5 Centavos paying the internal postage to Valparaiso, then by 'Pacific Steam Navigation Company to Panama and across the Isthmus and carried Trans-Atlantic to London.

Scarce usage to an overseas destination.
