CHINA/TAIWAN. (Prisoner of War mail). 1944. Air Mail Great Britain postal stationery card 3d violet headed 'Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' addressed to Signalman A.L. May. Taiwan, Formosa' cancelled Dudley '4th Sept 44' with framed 'Crown/ Passed /P.W. 151' in carmine and boxed 'Sazawabutai'' (Sazawa Unit) and oval ''Kawaida'' censor seal in red and endorsed 'No 6' in red crayon (Indicating Signalman May was Camp 6, Taihoku' and received '2/3/45' in m/s on face. No oval seal from 'Kawaida' recorded by Tett. A very fine item of incoming mail to Formosa.
Signalman May was one of 500 POW's transported on 27 Oct 42 from Singapore on 'Dai Niche Mara" arrived in Takao Port, Taiwan in Feb 43 and incarcerated in Takao Camp.
