CHINA/TAIWAN. (Prisoner of War mail). 1943. Stamp-less envelope headed 'Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' addressed to Signalman A.L. May. British Prisoner of War, Taiwan Camp' cancelled Croydon '27th June 43' with 'Opened by Examiner/3913' censor label with boxed 'Taiwan Furyo Shuyosho' (Taiwan POW Camp) in carmine and oval censor seal in red endorsed 'No 6' in red crayon (Indicating Signalman May was in Camp 6, Taichu and received '9/6//44' in m/s on reverse. Very fine. Sensor seal not identified by Tett but an example seen from the same correspondence see David Tett volume 6 page 357).

Signalman May was one of 500 POW's transported on 27 Oct 42 from Singpaore on "Dai Niche Maru" arrived in Takao Port in Feb 43 and incarcerated in Takao Camp.
