CHINA/TAIWAN. (Prisoner of War mail). 1943. Stamp-less envelope headed 'Service Des Prisonniers de Guerre' addressed to Signalman A.L. May. British Prisoner of War c/o Prisoner of War, Taiwan Camp' cancelled Croydon '14th July 1943' with 'Opened by Examiner/ 4553'' censor label with boxed 'Taiwan Furyo Shuyosho' (Taiwan POW Camp) and circular censor seal in red and endorsed 'No 2' in red crayon (Indicating Signalman May was in Taichu Camp 2) and received '22/6/44'. A VERY RARE item of incoming mail to Taichu Camp 2 (Only piece recorded by Tett) and with an unidentified censor. (See David Tett volume six page 357).

Signalman May was one of 500 POW's transported on 27 Oct 42 from Singapore on "Dai Niche Mara" arrived in Takao Port, Taiwan in Feb 43 and incarcerated in Takao Camp.
