China. (Boxer Rebellion). 1902. Stamp-less Red Band envelope headed 'Corps Expeditionnaire de L' Extreme Orient' addressed to France cancelled 'Corr. D' Armees/ Shang-Hai' date stamp '22nd Jan 02' with circular 'Canonniere "Le Surprise" / Commandant' on reverse with 'Marine Francaise/ Service a la Mer', hand-struck vernacular instructional on face and Paris arrival '24th Feb' on reverse. Very fine item from the Gunboat "The Surprise" part of the French Marine Detachment in the Boxer Campaign.
