China. (French Naval Detachment in China). 1888. Stamp-less envelope addressed to France endorsed 'Corps d' Occupation du Tonkin' cancelled by 'Ha-Noi/ Tonkin' date stamp with adjacent 'Tonkin/ Corps Expedit.' double ring '10 Mars 88' and circular 'Division Navale du Tonkin/ Levrard' in orange-red on face, sent by French paquebot with 'Cor. D' Arm Ligne N Paq Fr. No 5' on reverse '25th Mars' and Bordeaux arrival on reverse '22/4'. Lovely item from the Marine Detachment during the French Occupation of China cancellation in red being very scarce.
The Gunboat "Levrard" had been sent to French China as a part of the Flotilla in the Tonkin Campaign.
