China. (French Naval Detachment in China). 1888. Stamp-less envelope addressed to France endorsed 'Division Navale du Tonkin' cancelled by Haphong/ Tonkin date stamp with octagonal 'Corr. D' Armees/ Hai-Phong' transit '27th Dec 88' and circular 'Division Navale du Tonkin/ Mutine' on face with Finistere arrival on reverse. Lovely item from the French Marine Detachment during the French Occupation of China.
The Gunboat "Mutine" had been sent to French China as a part of the Flotilla in the Tonkin Campaign.
