China. (Japanese Post Office in China). 1920. Picture post card of 'view of Shanghai' written from the 'French Military Croiseur "D' Estrees", Shanghai', dated '10th Nov 20' addressed to France bearing Japanese Post Office SG 34, 1s orange tied by Shanghai/ I.J.P.O. date stamp '7th Nov 1920' with circular 'Marine Francaise/ Service a la Mer' on face and reverse with La Rochelle arrival.

Built for the French Navy in 1899 she patrolled with the Northern Squadron as concern grew in the rise of the Italian and German Navy. By WW1 she was based at Jeddah and the Red Sea ports then escorted convoys from French Madagascar to French Somaliland. After the war she was refitted at La Ciotat and sent to French Indo-China and patrolling the seas of China.
