Egypt. (French Internee in the Levant). 1941. Stamp-less envelope headed 'F.M.' written from Toulon to a French Internee at Alexandria addressed 'Croiseur "Tournville", Marine Beyrouth, via Marseille Gare, Etranger' with Toulon dispatch '22nd May 1941' with Levant (Beyrouth) censor tape tied by oval 'Ouvert/ Par Autorite de Controle/ L.O. 1' in red on face and reverse, with circular German censor 'Ag' in carmine and hand-stamp 'French Navy' with boxed Egypt censor and 'Egyptian Censorship' tape,.
The French Navy Force under the Command of Rene-Emile Godfroy known as 'Force X' had their Battleship "Lorraine" and three Cruisers including the "Tourville" under his command interned in Egypt.
