French Colonies. (Tahiti). 1915. Picture post card of 'Taiohae Bay & Wharf, Nakuhiva Island, Iles Maquises' addressed to New Caledonia canceled Papeete/ Tahiti '8th Mars 15' with boxed 'Troupes/ Mobilisees de Tahiti' in blue on face. After the bombardment of Papeete by the Germans on 22nd September 1914 a French Detachment was stationed in Oceania and Tahiti.
The two German Gunboats "Scharnhorst" and "Gneisenau" departed Papeete for the Marquisies island of Nuka-Hiva.
