French Colonies. (Guyane - Dutch West Indies). 1940. Registered Air Mail envelope (Air France via Natal, Brazil) addressed to North West France bearing French Guyane 'Air Mail' Yvert 15, 3f black and Yvert 18, 20f carmine tied by Cayenne/ Guyane Francaise date stamp '2nd Aug 40' with matching registration label, routed via the Netherlands West Indies with boxed 'Gezien Censuur' in violet with German censor tape tied by circular censor cachet with instructional hand-stamp 'Retour a l' Envoyeur/ Relations Postales/ Interrompaes' in carmine on face and returned to Guyane with receiver '26th June 41' on reverse.
The North West part of France was occupied by German Forces after the invasion in May/ June 1940, the Germans censored the letter but returned the mail from abroad that had been sent into occupied France.
