French Colonies. (Guadeloupe). 1878. Envelope addressed to France bearing French Colonies Yvert 17, 5c green/ blue (strip of eight) and pair) and Yvert 34, 20c lilac/ brown tied by Guadeloupe/ Basse Terre double ring '11th Juin 78' with French entry cachet in red '28th Juin', routed via England and Paris with Vendee arrival on reverse. Spectacular mixed issue franking paying the double packet rate via England post U.P.U., the 35c rate was only in use for 9 months and the 70c double letter rate is very rare. Exhibition item.
