French Colonies. (Guadeloupe). 1787. Pre-stamp envelope written from Sainte Rose dated '30th Aout 1787' addressed to Bordeaux, cancelled by hand-struck 'Pointe apitre/ Guadeloupe' in red on face (Jamet/ 2) with hand-struck charge '20' on reverse in red and French entry cachet 'Col N. Par/ La Rochelle' in black (Salles Type 18), rated with bold '14' in m/s.
Very early letter from the tiny village of Sainte Rose, the first rimless cds did not appear until 1860. Only two prepaid covers are known.
The Pointe apitre hand-stamp was only used in 1787. This cover is much more interesting than Lot 1062 in Dr Ed Grabowski sale.
