Stamp-less envelope written from an Italian Prisoner of War held in Collection Camp No 5 (Campo Di Raccolta No 5), Rodi addressed to Bari, Italy, in the upper right is the Camp Commandant signature, routed via the German military plane to Athens and Munich with circular 'A/d' in carmine, on arrival the United States Allies have opened the mail with a Provisional label stamped 'Opened by/ U.S. Army Examined' tied by oval 'U.S. Army/ P.W. Examiner' in violet on face, Bari receiver 'Polignano a Mare/ Bari' date stamp '8th May 44' and hand-stamped '11 Capo Centro Documentale/ Garofalo' (Chief Document Center) with signature stamp in violet on reverse.
The cover followed the routing system of the Red Cross via Athens and Munich to Geneva, Marseille via rail, then Lisbon (Red Cross ship), Algiers to Naples by Allied Military ship.
