India. (French Settlement in India). 1905. Registered French India postal stationery envelope 25c black/ rose upgraded with French India Yvert 9, 30c brown tied by Chandernagor double ring '26th Jan 05' with framed hand-struck 'R' in black on face addressed to Germany with Hamburg arrival on reverse '11th Feb'.

Scarce item of registered postal stationery from CHANDERNAGOR. The sender has used a 25c postal stationery envelope upgraded with a 30c stamp, thus overpaid by 5c. Undoubtedly the sender had the 30c stamp available and decided to use it rather than buy a proper 25c stamp.

Illustrated in an article written by Ed Grabowski for 'The Collectors Club Philatelist' Volume 95, Number 6 on the French Colonial Allegorical Group Type for French India.

Ex Dr Edward Grabowski collection.
