Jamaica. (Forwarding Agents). 1839. Pre stamp folded letter written from 'John Mulholland, Kingston, Jamaica' dated '17th January 1819' addressed to New York with bold circular 'Commercial Buildings/ Jan 21/ Kingston/ Jamaica/ 1839' on reverse and rated '6' in m/s for the ship letter.
Lovely item with 'Dr. Cordova's Prices current inside and duplicate of letter dated 'Liverpool '3rd September 1838' from John Mulholland hoping for a "mercantile life" in Jamaica (having just been made a bankrupt in Liverpool).
Jacob de Cordova was a Jewish Jamaican who founded the 'Jamaica Gleaner'.
A rare forwarding agent, the Commercial Building with date being three times as scarce as the undated type listed by Rowe.
