British West Indies. (Great Britain - Jamaica Ship Letter). 1803. Pre - stamp folded duplicate letter written from 'Jamaica' dated '18th November 1803' addressed to London cancelled by oval 'Ship Letter (Crown) / Jamaica' and endorsed 'H.M.S. "Cumberland" rated '25' in m/s, forwarded on arrival in London with receiver on reverse 'Jan 23/ 1804 in red and oval '7 o' Clock/ Jan 25th/ 1804 N.T.' in orange with hand-struck 'Two Py Poft/ Unpaid/ Lombard St.' on face and charged with bold hand-struck '2' tax hand-stamp.

Letter refers to sugar crops and the coffee on Blue Mountain.

'H.M.S. "Cumberland" was built in Deptford 1774. The "Cumberland" took part in the Blockade of 'Saint - Domingue on the 28th June 1803.

Under Capt. Sorrell the 'Cumberland" arrived at Spithead on the '24th January 1804 (this letter on the voyage) with news of the surrender and evacuation of Saint Domingue Later in 1804 having once again engaged with the French Navy in the West Indies she was broken up.
