M's Foreign Office, Tokio' with 'Ministere des Afaires Etrangers/ Japan' seals on reverse, addressed to the 'Consul du Japan, Berlin' bearing 'Cherry Blossom' SG 71, 20s carmine (syllabic 8) moxed with 'Koban' SG 96, 4s green tied by cog-wheel cork obliterator with Tokio/ Japan date stamp '16th May 1884' on face, routed via Yokohama '16th May' hand-stamped 'via San Francisco' with New York 'June 11' and Berlin arrival '26/6' on reverse. Superb item franked at the double letter rate via Brindisi but routed via the United States. Exhibition.
