Post card headed 'Prisoners of War Post/ Service des Prisonniers de Guerre' written from Colwyn Bay with dispatch dated '27th March 44' addressed to 'Aircraftsman 1st Class. P.T.O. Gardner, British Prisoner of War, Java Camp Y, Java', with framed 'Crown/ Passed by Censor' in carmine with boxed 'Mare a Ikan' (Transferred to Malaya) in violet and m/s 'M' with framed 'Ken'etuzumi' (Censored) with oval Japanese censor seal and endorsed 'Recd. 8-1-45' in pencil on face.
Three groups of prisoners around 1000 men were sent to Ambon, Haroekoe or Flores to build the airfields. The Japanese used code letter 'Y' for the mail.
Gardner had been in Ambon and then transferred to Malaya. Scarce item.
