Malaya. (French Maritime Mail). 1872. Envelope written on board the French steamer "PEIHO", endorsed 'Dans le Detroit de Malaisie' (in the Straits of Malaysia) dated '29th Avril 1872' addressed to France bearing France 'Type Empire' Laure' Yvert 30, 30c brown (pair) and Yvert 31, 40c orange tied by 'Anchor' in lozange with adjacent French paquebot 'Ligne N Paq. Fr. No' date stamp (Salles 1921), dated '3rd Mai' in Singapore, boxed 'PD' and Lyon arrival on reverse.
Lovely item written by 'Officer Jourdan' of the First French Military Mission in Japan on his voyage East. He writes from the Straits of Malaysia that he has sailed two days from Ceylon. A unique item posted from Singapore by French paquebot.
Also enclosed a small photo taken by "Joudan" of a fishing canoe and mentioned in the text.
