Mauritius. (Irish Ship Letters). 1850. Stamp-less envelope written from Bel Air dated '2nd Feb 1850' addressed to France with framed 'Souillac/ Fe 4 1850' hand-stamp with framed 'Paid' and 'Crown/ Mauritius' , endorsed 'Ship 4d' in black m/s, routed via Ireland and Great Britain with 'Dunmore East' hand-stamp and scroll 'Ship Letter' in black (Robertson S1) and hand-struck 'Waterford/ Ship Letter' in green (Robertson S2) with Waterford green transit 'My 10' with London 'May 13' and boxed accountancy 'Colonies/ & art 13' on face in red, French entry cachet and taxed '8' in blue m/s with La Fleche receiver' on reverse. An amazing cover from Souillac the ship appears to have sheltered from a storm in the estuary of the River Suir with Dunmore East at the head, this coverhas been struck by the Dunmore East Ship Letter and with the Waterford Ship Letter on arrival up the estuary in Waterford. A unique item. Exhibition piece.
