Air Mail envelope addressed to Java, Netherlands East Indies bearing Great Britain SG 477, 5s red tied by Bromley duplex routed via San Francisco and Hawaii when the service was suspended and returned to London,censored by the British 'Opened by Examiner/995' with framed instructional 'No Service/Return To Sender' on face in violet.

A double letter Air Mail franking to the Netherlands Indies the rate was 2/6d per 1/2oz x 2.

This cover had been carried by PANAM Clipper to New York and domestic US Airmail to San Francisco and was en route by PANAM Pacific Clipper via Hawaii when this service was suspended after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour on '8th January 1941.'
