Netherlands East Indies. 1946. Envelope addressed to Den Hague bearing SG 519, 25c blue-green tied by Semarang date stamp '29th July 48' with 'Deviezen/ Control/ Semerang' censor on face. Scarce item from the War of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27 Dec 1949.
