Netherlands East Indies. (Recovery of Allied Prisoners). 1945. Air Mail envelope addressed to Holland bearing SG 471, 7 1/2c olive (pair) and SG 476, 30c grey tied by framed Balikpapan date stamp '24th Dec 1945' with circular 'Passed by/ R.N.F. Censor/ No 48' on face.
Major Dr. Schouten had been a Doctor at the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army, Camp Columbia, Wacol, Brisbane ans served with the 'RAPWI' (Recovery of Allied Prisoners of War and Internees) in the Dutch Indies, Timor and Thailand. The NEI Government in Exile was quartered in Camp Columbia from 1944. A scarce item.
