Netherlands East Indies. (Naval Censor- Great Britain). 1941. Envelope written from Glasgow addressed to Batavia, Java bearing Great Britain SG 467, 3d violet tied by 'Tanjong/ Priok' dateb stamp '8th Oct 41' with adjacent 'Paquebot hand-stamp and 'Geopend Door Censuur' label tied by 'Censuur/ 5' date stamp with 'Passed by Naval Censor' label on reverse and circular 'Ec. C.' and 'Dev/ 17' with hand-struck 'Censuur/ Gepasseerd/ 1' in carmine on face. Very scarce item of censored mail.
Applied when Royal Navy ships boarded mostly neutral (mostly Dutch) vessels and intercepted mail.
