London' addressed to Malang, Java bearing Great Britain SG 467, 3d violet and SG 475, 1s brown tied by Portsmouth double ring '2nd Sept 40', with boxed 'From H.M. Ship/ Passed by Censor', signed and dated '2/9/40' on reverse with 'Opened by Examiner' label and 'Door Censuur Geopend' label tied by 'Gecensureerd' hand-stamp on face and reverse in carmine.
W.A. Wachter served on "HNLMS Jacob Van Heemskerck", after the German invasion of Holland the ship based itself in Portsmouth assigned to the Atlantic Convoy escort before helping the Allies re take Madagascar.
