Netherlands East Indies. (Prisoner of War in Sumatra). 1944. Prisoner of War postal stationery card (second type) headed 'Furyo Yubin' (Prisoner of War Post) with pre printed 'Marai Furyo Shuyosho (Malaya Prisoner of War Post) and 'Ken'etsuzumi' (Censored) written by 'H. van Saemsfoort, Landstorm, Sergeant, Malayan POW Camps' addressed to his wife in Bandoeng (Java) and forwarded to 'Lembangweg 91' with boxed seral of "Takahashi" in orange, endorsed 'N.R.' with boxed instructional 'No Record/ In Java/ P.O.W. & Internees Camps' in violet on face.
This mark was applied by the POW sorters in Java. There were three varieties of this hand-stamp. The N.R. suggests Mrs van Saemsfoort was not interned.
