Netherlands East Indies. (Internment Camp Mail). 1941. Netherlands East Indies postal stationery card 3 1/2c grey written from Ngawi Internment Camp dated '7th January 1941' addressed to an internee at Banjoebiroe Internment Camp, routed via Batavia '10/1' with Gecensureerd/ 2' hand-stamp in carmine on face.
J. Heinrich Ressing was one of 478 German internees being transported from Sibolga to Colombo on the 'S.S. "Van Imhoff" when she was bombed by Japanese war planes off Sumatra 19th January 1942. Out of 478 internees only 65 survived and took over the Dutch Indies island of Nias. (They hoped to claim the island as a Republic).
