Netherlands East Indies. (Internment Camp - Red Cross Mail). 1940. Red Cross Air Mail envelope headed 'Nederlandsch-Indische Roode Kruis/ Tjikini 65 - Batavia' addressed to 'Au Bureau International De La Croix Rouge/ Palais Du Conseil General/ Geneve (Suisse)' bearing Netherlands Indies SG 429, 10c vermillion (pair) tied by Medan date stamp with adjacent 'Cdt. - Intern-Kamp/ Koetajane' date stamp '21st Dec 40' with hand-stamp 'Gecensureerd/ 2' in carmine and circular 'Net Nederlandsch Indische/ Roode Kruis' on reverse, endorsed 'Luchtpost'. A very attractive yellow Red Cross letter issued to the internees at Koetajane Camp (North Sumatra).
Most of the German men held in the camp were transferred to Dehra Dun in British India December 1941.
