Netherlands East Indies. (Two Ocean Mail - Returned Mail - Red Cross). 1945. Air Mail envelope written from Tilburg, Holland addressed to Soerabaja bearing Netherlands Yvert 377, 22 1/2c green and Yvert 381, 50c brown-yellow (pair) tied by Tilburg date stamp '11th Oct 45', endorsed 'Per Luchtpost/ via Australia' with large circular 'Nederlandsch-Inisch/ Roode Kruis' in carmine with instructional 'Postal Service Suspended/ Return To Sender'. boxed 'Retour Afzender/ Onbekend/ Onafgehaald' (Return to Sender/ Unknown Uncollected) with Batavia 'RAPWI/ Post Kantoor/ 16 Feb 46/ Batavia' in violet on face.
RAPWI, Recovery of Allied Prisoners of War and Internees (Kantoor = Post Office).
Air Mail routed via Military plane to England and Ireland then over the Atlantic to Miami and Cristobel (Canal Zone), then by ship to Australia and finally by aircraft of the '19th Netherlands East Indies Squadron to Batavia.
