Netherlands East Indies. (Protection Camp Mail). 1940. Netherlands East Indies Red Cross Air Mail envelope addressed to 'Au Bureau International De La Croix Rouge/ Palais Du Conseil General, Geneve (Suisse)' written from Blitar Protection Camp bearing Netherlands Indies SG 408, 35c violet tied by Blitar date stamp '27th December 40' with 'Beschermings - Kamp/ Blitar/ Tel 55' hand-stamp on reverse in violet with 'Door Censuur Geopend' label tied by circular 'Het Nederlandsch Indische/ Roode Kruis' in carmine on front and reverse endorsed 'By K.L.M. to Bagdad.'
The Internment Camp at Blitar was housed in the 'Grand Hotel' at first for Indonesian and German women and later in March 1941 a Protection Camp for Dutch women and children, 130 were held in the camp.
A very rare Camp mark, only one other item known.
