Netherlands East Indies. (Internment Camp - Trans - Pacific Mail). 1941. Air Mail, Postage Paid post card from Alas Vallei, Koeta Tjane Internment Camp addressed to New York. Specially designed card headed 'Service Des Prisonniers De Guerre/ Franc De Port' written from A.A. Moshammer, F/4, Internment Kamp, Koeta Tjane, Sumatra' dated '2nd August 1941' bearing Netherlands Indies SG 406, 25c blue-green and SG 429, 10c vermilion tied by Medan date stamp '4/8', adjacent CDT. Intern. Kamp/ Koetajane' date stamp '4th August', endorsed 'P.A.A. Service/ onward Air Transmission', with 'Gecensureerd/ 4' hand-stamp in carmine, routed via Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong with New York arrival '29th August.
Card has been censured on reverse.
Only two other specially designed Prisoner of War postcards are known from Koetajane Internment Camp uprated for Air Mail, both addressed to Japan. This is the only Trans-Pacific usage,
Ex Paul Bulterman's Internment Camp collection and illustrated in his book "Nederlands Indie in Oorlog" page 22.
