Netherlands East Indies. (War of Independence). 1948. Air Mail envelope addressed to Gravenhage bearing SG 344, 10c scarlet and SG 346, 15c blue (2) tied by Semarang date stamp '12th May 48' with circular 'Deviezen/ Controle/ Semarang' censor on face. Scarce censor. Nice item from the War of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
