Netherlands East Indies. (War of Independence). 1948. Air mail envelope addressed to the Netherlands bearing 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 506, 12 1/2c orange (pair) tied by Malang date stamp '15th Mar 48' with framed 'CTR Deviezen/ Soearbaja 1' censor in violet on face. Scarce censor applied during the conflict for Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the '27th Dec 1949.
