Netherlands East Indies. (War on Independence). 1948. Air Mail envelope addressed to New Zealand bearing SG 344, 10c scarlet (2) and SG 346, 15c ultramarine mixed with 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 506, 25c blue-green tied by Paloe date stamp '30th Jan 48' with framed 'CTR. Deviezen/ Soerabaja 1' censor in violet on face. Scarce censor applied during the conflict of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
