Air Mail envelope addressed to Holland bearing 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 507, 25c blue-green tied by Batavia date stamp with circular 'DEV/ 2' censor cachet, underpaid with 'T' hand-stamp and bearing Netherlands postage due 30c blue (2) applied and tied by s' Gravenhage receiver. Nice currency censor applied during the War of Independence.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
