Netherlands East Indies. (Malay). 1947. Air Mail envelope addressed to 'Military Administration HQ. Ned Forces, Kuala Lumpur' bearing 'Dutch Rule Restored' SG 473, 15c blue (pair) tied by Bij/ Postkantoor/ Oranje-Boulavaard/ Batavia' date stamp '6th May 1946' and returned.

The Dutch Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed a four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
