Netherlands East Indies. (Currency Control Label). 1947. Registered Air Mail envelope addressed to Holland bearing 'Dutch Rule restored' SG 474, 17 1/2c carmine (block of four) and SG 486, 2 1/2c orange-red (block of four) tied by Batavia date stamp '22nd July 47' with registration label and on reverse currency control label reading 'Vrijegeven voor vorgending naar het buitenland goldig tet. 22 August 1947- Batavia 22 July 1947/ De wd Ditector van het Nederlandsch-Indisch/ Deviezeninstitute, Namesns dazan' and signed by the currency controller, with arrival '29/7' on reverse.

Scarce label translating 'Released for the delivery abroad to foreign countries/ The Director of the Exchange Institute.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from Holland at 10am 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
