Netherlands East Indies. (Marine Post). 1946. Air Mail envelope addressed to Java bearing Netherlands Indies SG 403, 10c scarlet (pair) tied by oval 'Marine Postkantoor/ Batavia' date stamp in violet. Very fine.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
