Netherlands East Indies. (Marine Post). 1947. Netherlands Indies postal stationery post-card '5 on 3 1/2c' upgraded with SG 403, 10c scarlet (pair) tied by Soerabaja date stamp '27th Dec 47', endorsed 'Air Mail' with hand-struck 'Marine Postkantoor/ Amsterdam' in carmine on face.
Very attractive item with hand-drawn Xmas - New Year picture on reverse.
The Dutch East Indies declared independence from the Netherlands at 10am, 17th August 1945. There followed four years of armed resistance and bloody conflict until the Dutch recognized Independence on the 27th Dec 1949.
